How to Choose the right Shredder for your needs?

How to Choose the right Shredder for your needs?

Shredding in a nutshell:

How Much? How much shredding do you need do?
How Many? How many people are going to use the machine?
How Often? How often will you do that amount of shredding?
Need to be POPI Compliant (Cross cut P3, P4, P5 or P6) or general shredding (Straight cut P1 or P2)?

The shredder you choose depends very much on your security needs.

Straight cut shredders literally tear the paper into long strips, which vary in width according to the security level.

Cross cut shredders shred the paper into tiny rectangular pieces so they offer a very high level of security. Cross cut shredders also have other advantages in that the shredded chips compact under their own weight, so the waste bin needs emptying less often.

Rexel Shredders from AtYourDoor are classified according to the widely-recognized DIN security standard, DIN 32757. This grades the shred size from P1 to P6+.

  • P1 = A4 sheet cut into 28 Strips
  • P2 = A4 sheet cut into 36 Strips
  • P3 = A4 sheet cut into 300 Pieces
  • P4 = A4 sheet cut into 400 Pieces
  • P5 = A4 sheet cut into 2000 Pieces
  • P5+ = A4 sheet cut into 6000 Pieces
  • P6 = A4 sheet cut into 6000 Pieces
  • P6+ = A4 sheet cut into 12000 Pieces

As with all machines the biggest cause of malfunctions and break-downs is
misuse.

Firstly it is most important that you purchase the correct machine for your needs from AtYourDoor.

Secondly, that all Users are made aware of the machines capabilities, e.g. the number of sheets that can be
shred at one time. (Jamming as a result of too many sheets being inserted in a single manual feed is the biggest cause of paper jams and/or malfunctions). Removing staples and paperclips before shredding your documents will also increase the life span of you REXEL or LEITZ paper shredder.

Cross-cut shredders need to be oiled regularly. Oil can be purchased from AtYourDoor. You can use oil sheets for single use applications on smaller REXEL and LEITZ shredder models.
